ASKERI GALLERY ARTIST
Pavel Polanski is one of the most famous russian artists, who already had a significant number of personal projects and collaborations.
Pavel Polanski was born in Moscow in 1980. In 2004 he graduated from Surikov Moscow State Art Institute (T.G. Nasarenko’s department of easel painting). He completed an internship at the Academy of Fine Arts in Germany in 2002 (Karlsruhe). From 2004 to 2006 he studied in creative graduate school in the workshop of T.G. Nazarenko. In 2007 he became a member of the Moscow Union of Artists.
Pavel Polanski’s paintings are very modest in colors, dominated by the shades of grey and sepia. This technique can be called «grisaille». However, if in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance artists turned to it to imitate bas-reliefs and sculptures, Polanski achieves using it an old photo effect.
The artist’s ideal world has often a temporal dimension: not «where?» but «when?», as if he is in «search of lost time». The world in his pictures looks very realistic, but examining the details, the viewer realizes that this is hardly possible. The image that is depicted is a myth, a fiction, carefully constructed by the artist
