KAWS (Brian Donnelly) - American artist and designer from New Jersey. He graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York. While working at Dysney, he started developing as a street artist. At the beginning of his journey, KAWS embeded his graffiti into the city space, modernizing urban advertisements and public transport. His style with crosses instead of eyes quickly became recognizable and popular.
In the late 90s, KAWS began to create vinyl figurines, which quickly gained worldwide recognition, especially among Japanese collectors.
The first character of KAWS was the Companion, a 20-centimeter toy resembling at poisoned Mickey Mouse. Then the artist created many other characters - Accomplice, Chum, Bendy, BFF, etc.
In 2019, to the opening of the Art Basel Hong Kong, in the Victoria Harbor in Hong Kong appeared a 37-meter version of the famous Companion. The installation is called “KAWS: HOLIDAY” and has already traveled a number of cities in China. “I wanted to create a work that would be about relaxing — lying on the water and looking up,” says Brian.
The style of the artist is unique, it cannot be confused with anything else. His works are represented in the world's best galleries and museums, such as the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the High Museum of Art, the Modern Art Museum, the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, the Galerie Perrotin and the Honor Fraser Gallery, his illustrations can be found in collaborations with leading brands and popular musicians.
