ASKRI GALLERY ARTIST
Gleb Skubachevsky was born in Moscow in 1989. He acquired an excellent academic education. The turning point in his art biography was studying in Aidan Salakhova’s and Sergey Ossovsky’s studio in the V. Surikov Moscow State Art Institute. He also worked for the Winzavod Center of Contemporary art and his interest in contemporary art grew rapidly.
Skubachevsky participated in numerous art residences abroad, experienced strong influence from many artists, whose works, as he says, «became my second University, after Surikov.»
At the Marat Gelman’s DEAC residence in Montenegro Skubachevsky has developed his recognizable technique, which he has been using for the last few years. It is a mixture of different materials, primarily paper, on canvas. In recent projects, the artist has begun to create sculpture. Skubachevsky calls himself an explorer, the creator of new life forms on canvas. ‘The process of creating a picture or sculpture is very important for me, I consider them to be living beings, I think they exude strong energy into space. I like to use different materials, to see what finally comes out. In my work I always leave some space for experiment’.
Skubachevsky’ s work are very unique. They involve an incredibly fine, complex and painstaking technique, which requires a very delicate approach, concentration and a huge amount of time. Thus, the process of creation and works themselves are meditative. Skubachevsky’ s art is on the verge of painting, sculpture and design, and this balance is always difficult to sustain.
The author is constantly searching for new creative ideas and techniques. He has developed his art from paintings on six-foot canvases to complex objects, and sculpture.
In 2016, he entered the Top 100 recognized young Russian artists according to INART magazine. He is a two-time winner of the UNESCO award for participation in art symposiums Patras Art Fair and the Athina Art Fair.
His works are in private collections in Russia, the Great Britain, Montenegro, Greece, Italy, Slovakia, Switzerland, France, Brazil and Hong Kong.
